What Amara Singapore is
Amara Singapore stands at 165 Tanjong Pagar Road, in the Tanjong Pagar area of Singapore’s Central Business District. The hotel’s own getting-here page, fetched 29 September 2026, describes it as about a five-minute walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT Station via Exit A.
According to Roots.gov.sg, the National Heritage Board’s heritage portal, the Amara Hotel opened in May 1986 on Tanjong Pagar Road, developed by the Teo Teck Huat Group, a family construction firm. Its name is taken from the amaranth flower and means ‘eternity’ in Sanskrit. Roots.gov.sg records that a planned management link with SAS International Hotels, a subsidiary of Scandinavian Airlines System, was withdrawn shortly before the hotel opened, so the property opened simply as the Amara Hotel rather than under the SAS name used during construction. A second, 12-storey office tower was added to the original 25-storey tower and podium in 2002, under Albert Teo, the founder’s grandson, per the same source.
The hotel’s own press room, fetched 29 September 2026, records an 11-month phased renovation completed by September 2024. A press release dated 16 September 2024 states the makeover covered the hotel’s guest rooms, public spaces, meeting spaces, ballrooms and dining establishments; a separate press release dated 28 June 2024 states the Level 3 meeting and event spaces — the Grand Ballroom, four function rooms and a foyer — were redesigned with Studio HBA, a division of Hirsch Bedner Associates. The pages reviewed for this guide do not describe the hotel building itself as conserved or heritage-listed.
Wedding venues the hotel lists
The hotel’s weddings page, fetched 29 September 2026, lists three venue categories for weddings: the Grand Ballroom, the Ballrooms and the Connection Rooms. The Ballroom Foyer and The Parlor (the latter on Level 17) both appear on the hotel’s general event-venues list, and the Ballroom Foyer also appears in the current wedding package brochures, but neither is one of the three categories the weddings page itself names, so ask the hotel whether either is included in a wedding booking.
The Grand Ballroom is described as column-free, with floor-to-ceiling windows along one side and a neutral colour palette. The hotel’s own venue page gives the room as 666 square metres with a height of 3.6 metres, and its capacity chart lists 500 guests in an auditorium layout, 400 in banquet, 350 in buffet and 550 in cocktail layout; the same page notes that this chart is based on the space without staging set up and may vary. The hotel’s weddings FAQ separately states the Grand Ballroom can hold up to 400 guests for a wedding banquet, with a maximum of 40 tables of 10 guests; final capacity depends on the selected layout and event requirements. The room is described as having a 38-metre aisle. For the LED wall, the venue page states 7.6 metres; the 2026/27 package floor plans state 8.96 × 2.4 metres. The published measurements differ; confirm the installed screen dimensions with the hotel.
For the two smaller Ballrooms, the venue page publishes a range of 219 to 291 square metres, with a capacity chart giving 200 to 450 guests in auditorium layout, 100 to 300 in banquet and 100 in buffet; the page does not explain whether these figures describe each ballroom individually or the two combined, so ask the hotel which figure applies to a single-room booking. The weddings page separately describes the Connection Rooms as each accommodating 50 to 60 guests, while the rooms’ own venue page publishes a range of 82 to 210 square metres, with a capacity chart giving 50 to 60 guests in auditorium layout and 40 to 80 in banquet; this page also does not explain whether its figures are per room or combined, so ask the hotel the same question for this space. The Ballroom Foyer is described on the event-venues list as an open space for mingling and drinks before the main event. Its own specifications page states 25 square metres with a buffet capacity of 12. Ask the hotel whether use of the Ballroom Foyer is included in a wedding booking and, if so, which area applies to your guest count.
Solemnisation and tea ceremony at the hotel
The hotel’s weddings FAQ, fetched 29 September 2026, states that a separate venue can be arranged for a solemnisation or a tea ceremony, accommodating up to 40 guests. Red date tea is provided for the tea ceremony, while couples are asked to bring their own tea set and disposable double-happiness tea cups.
For a civil marriage, a ceremony at this hotel would be an offsite solemnisation under the Registry of Marriages’ rules at marriage.gov.sg, which may take place on any day of the week, including a weekend or public holiday, once the marriage licence has been issued. Coordinate the proposed venue, date and time with the hotel and your licensed solemniser before finalising arrangements. ROM says bookings can be made 3 to 6 months before the solemnisation date, and ROM notes that solemnisers may not be able to commit to a booking earlier than this. Submit the marriage application no earlier than six months and at least 21 days before the solemnisation, with the 21-day notice period counting from when the application is submitted and paid, and arrange two witnesses aged above 21, of any nationality.
The Registry of Marriages’ own sites are separate from a hotel wedding: the Registry of Marriages at The Esplanade Mall, a temporary location while the Canning Rise building is redeveloped, as at September 2026, and the Ficus Room at Gardens by the Bay, which holds a maximum of 40 people including the couple and witnesses. For a ceremony at Amara Singapore, confirm the specific space with the hotel’s Wedding team and arrange a licensed solemniser.
What the hotel states about vendors and catering
The hotel’s weddings FAQ, fetched 29 September 2026, states that external wedding vendors may be engaged subject to hotel approval and applicable terms, and that couples should discuss preferred vendors with the Wedding team in advance. The same FAQ states that external decorators and florists may also be engaged, subject to hotel approval and to venue, fire-safety, installation and dismantling requirements. The pages reviewed for this guide do not set out a specific photography or videography policy beyond this general vendor-approval statement, so ask the Wedding team directly whether your own photographer and videographer are permitted for your booked space.
For catering, the FAQ states that Chinese wedding banquet menus are prepared in-house by the hotel’s own Chinese Banquet Chef, and that Chinese vegetarian and Halal set-menu options are available with no minimum order, alongside a dedicated Halal kitchen. Menus can be discussed with the Wedding team based on the selected package and any dietary requirements. Outside alcoholic beverages may be permitted subject to hotel approval and corkage charges, to be confirmed with the Wedding team in advance.
The hotel’s current Wedding Packages 2026/27 brochures — named Adore for weekday (Monday to Friday) celebrations, and Blissful and Cherish for Saturday, Sunday, eve-of-public-holiday and public-holiday celebrations — set out Chinese banquet menus for the Grand Ballroom with a stated minimum table count and various inclusions. The brochures are labelled ‘2026/27’ but do not print a precise validity or booking-deadline date, and this guide does not repeat package pricing, so ask the Wedding team which dates each package covers and for its current terms.
Practical details: parking, accommodation and site visits
The hotel’s weddings FAQ states that Amara Singapore has a basement car park shared with 100 AM Mall, and that parking arrangements for wedding guests should be confirmed with the Wedding team, as they may vary by wedding package. One bridal car can be accommodated at the hotel driveway for the duration of the wedding banquet, with additional driveway parking subject to availability.
Bridal or changing room arrangements, and accommodation for the couple and guests, can both be discussed with the Wedding team and are subject to availability; the FAQ notes that wedding or group accommodation rates may depend on the selected date and room availability. A wedding site inspection can be arranged with the Wedding team, subject to venue availability and appointment confirmation, and the hotel recommends contacting the team as early as possible. A wedding token box is available on the day; ask the Wedding team about the stationery included in your selected package.
What to ask before you book
Ask the Wedding team which of the Level 3 spaces your booking includes, whether the smaller Ballrooms’ listed capacities apply per room or combined, and which layout — auditorium, banquet, buffet or cocktail — suits each part of your celebration. Confirm whether your own photographer and videographer are permitted, and whether a site visit can be arranged beforehand.
Coordinate the proposed venue, date and time with the hotel and your licensed solemniser before finalising arrangements.
